Pula and its Arena from Fažana: a 12 km day trip

Pula is Istria's largest town and only 10–12 km from our apartments — close enough for a half-day trip, yet far enough from the city bustle.

Pula and its Arena from Fažana: a 12 km day trip

Getting there

By car it takes about 15–20 minutes to central Pula. Local bus lines also connect Fažana and Pula. Pula Airport is about 12 km from the apartments.

What to see

  • the Arena — a 1st-century Roman amphitheatre, one of the best preserved in the world,
  • the Temple of Augustus and the Forum, the main square since Roman times,
  • the Arch of the Sergii (Golden Gate) at the entrance to the old town,
  • the Kaštel fortress on the hill above town, with views over the harbour.

Summer in the Arena

In summer the Arena hosts concerts and the Pula Film Festival — an evening under the Roman arches is one of Istria's finest experiences. Get tickets early.

Tips

  • In high season come early in the morning — parking is easier and sightseeing cooler.
  • On the way you can stop in Vodnjan, an old Istrian town near Fažana.
  • For swimming in nature continue to Cape Kamenjak near Premantura, south of Pula.
